In vain of Geometry Wars, Spirit HD takes a different approach to the vector-style shooter and it works well. The game takes advantage of touch screens by having you make quick circles around enemies to suck them into a black hole instead of shooting them. This adds a different strategy and difficulty than a twin-stick shooter. You can plan your way around gaps instead of just fighting off everything around you. There is a good variety in enemies and the three modes will keep you busy for a while.
Classic mode is where you fight off waves of enemies by circling around groups and sucking them in. You can create combos by getting a lot of enemies in one hole as well as linking them by creating multiple holes one after another. This mode is something you can fire up when you have a few minutes to burn and can be addictive, challenging, and fun. Extreme mode is just really hard and crazier, but Pulse mode is where you can only create black holes by touching red orbs which add a different challenge.
Overall the game is good fun and looks good as well as the ability to play in landscape or portrait mode. This isn’t a game you will play forever but can be fun in short bursts. I would have liked to see more modes and some other abilities besides making black holes. What here works and is the closest you will get to Geometry Wars on your phone.
